Our yard is on Forge Road in Silverdale, so this is home. It also means we know what the sea air does out here: roofs on the Whangaparāoa peninsula and along Red Beach rust from the coast side first, usually around the fixings and the flashings, years before the rest of the roof looks tired. If you are within sight of the water, the roof is working harder than the one on the same house in Albany. We are ten minutes away — we would rather come and look at it now than replace it early.
